Our Motivation - The Global Classroom

I am a middle school Spanish Teacher/Group Tour coordinator leading an international traveling program at FMS.  A core group of FMS teachers and I promote international travel at our school.  Our mission is to offer all our middle school students & parents the opportunity to safely travel internationally together as a school community.  By traveling as a group outside of the U.S., students gain global mindedness, are immersed in world culture and history, use world language skills to communicate, gain leadership, problem solving, and organizational skills in an educationally supportive environment. I've been learning other languages (Portuguese, French, Japanese, and Korean) since the summer of 2020 and this has opened my eyes further to other countries' traditions and lifestyles and connected me to more teachers outside of the U.S. This experience gives value to the need to branch further out into the world. Making the world our global classroom enhances the lives of our students and inspires them to see themselves as global citizens.

I encourage students & parents to travel safely together on one of our educational tours offered. However, students can travel safely without parents.  We have a 5 or 6 to 1 chaperone ratio depending on the tour. Siblings are also welcome to travel in the group but the younger they are, the more parents should travel too! Traveling abroad with a parent, however, allows students to learn, explore and enjoy the experience together safely as a family.   This support encourages students to confidently explore and build a positive mindset about the places they will experience.  Seeing the world inspires them to learn, develop and shape their own pathway towards high school, college and a meaningful career someday.

I only partner with educational tour companies for our international student travel experiences.

This trip flies out from Sacramento.  We begin our tour in Madrid, Spain, then on to Barcelona, travel by ferry across the Mediterranean Sea to reach Rome, Italy.  In this tour, we will be visiting Madrid’s plazas, seeing popular landmarks, including the Prado Museum and the Spanish Royal Palace, to experience Spanish food, culture, art, history and shopping.  Then, we will travel to the city of Zaragoza to visit the Basilica of the Virgin of Pilar and enjoy a traditional Tapas dinner.  Upon arriving in Barcelona, we will visit Antoni Gaudi’s unfinished iconic church, La Sagrada Familia, Park Güell, and Montjüic Hill.  After walking the popular street of Las Ramblas, one can experience the open market of La Boquería, make time for shopping and have a traditional Paella lunch.  At Barcelona’s pier, we will board our ferry to travel overnight to Rome, Italy.  Our tour in Italy begins by walking the steps of Ancient Rome where we will tour the Colosseum, the Roman Forum and then venture out to the cities plazas where we will visit the Spanish Steps, the Trevi Fountain, the Pantheon, the Piazza Navona and have a traditional trattoria dinner. The next day we will tour Vatican City, where we will see the inside of St. Peter’s Basilica, the Vatican Museum and the Sistine Chapel where several of the famous Michelangelo’s murals and sculptures reside.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are you able to extend the trip and travel more days in Europe?

Yes.  EF Tours & Explorica, both allow travelers on their tours to move up or extend their flight in Europe. There is a per person fee to adjust flight dates.  Travelers are also responsible for managing their extra days in Europe including any accommodations, transportation and meals.

Can students and parents room together?

Yes, you can definitely request this rooming accommodation.  However, there is an extra fee to arrange this option if it is 1 parent and 1 student together.  When both parents travel with a student as a group of 3, there is no charge.  Simply because, we are traveling on a student educational tour and students are normally roomed in same gender groups of 3 or 4 to let them experience responsibility over themselves and their belongings on a trip. A parent is normally roomed with another parent on the same trip.
